From February 13–16, 2024, BIOFACH & VIVANESS 2024, the world’s largest organic food trade fair, has once again opened its doors at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. The event has brought together a diverse array of exhibitors and visitors from the organic sector, showcasing regional, national, and international stakeholders.
The trade fair, offering a sensory exploration of the organic food world through sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, promises a vibrant market of opportunities and a platform teeming with ideas, inspiration, and enjoyment.
One notable presentation during the event was the introduction of the FLIARA Project on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. The project was presented during the session “Visibility of Innovative Women in Organic Farming, Organic Food Economy, and Rural Areas” by Susanne von Münchhausen, a distinguished colleague and member.
The session focused on the visibility of innovative women in farming, highlighting the often-overlooked role of women as driving forces for innovation in the agricultural sector. Two farming innovators, integral to the German FLIARA’s case studies, joined the panel to discuss their experiences and insights.
The central theme of the session revolved around the question of whether society can afford to continue overlooking the contributions of women in agriculture, especially when it comes to innovation. The event aimed to provide a platform for women to share their perspectives and showcase their roles as catalysts for innovation and development processes.
Susanne von Münchhausen pointed out on Twitter/X, “Interesting discussion on the (in)visibility of women in agriculture: when it comes to innovations in calf rearing or village dairies, innovative women are more visible than in crop cultivation or pig farming.”
BIOFACH & VIVANESS 2024 continues to be a hub for promoting inclusivity and recognising the significant contributions of women in shaping the future of organic farming and sustainable agriculture. The event serves as a testament to the diverse and innovative approaches embraced by the organic sector in addressing the challenges of the present and building a more sustainable future.
